Welcome to the webinar Economic outlook: Where Will the US-China Trade War Take Us? and The Asia-Pacific Economic Outlook for 2021 and beyond!

Mr Jack Ilmonen will start the session on the US-China trade war. The US-China trade war is an inevitable phenomenon in the long economic rise of China. It has taken a long time for the western hemisphere to truly understand the power of China rising in the world. Also, it seems the playfield is unfair, as China is able to copy products and services freely from USA, but USA has nothing to copy from China. Seldomly has

any nation taken economic power from another nation, without some kind of a power struggle.

The major issues with the US-China trade war are:

A) Trade Tariffs and Disputes,

B) Debt and Interest Rates,

C) Technology & IP protection,

D) Free Trade & Protectionism, and

E) Competing Political Systems.

Can anyone win a Tariff based Trade War? What if China stops buying US government T-Bonds or sell their US debt securities on free markets? Who will lead the AI, smart manufacturing and online trade worldwide? How long can China continue to infringe on international IP? Should US-China Trade Disputes be settled at the WTO, where there is decades of relevant experience? Will protectionism become better or worse? Which political system will get more supporters worldwide? How and When will the US-China Trade War END?

What should and could both China and USA do, to find a solution?

How can we protect ourselves against the adverse effects of the US-China trade war?

Ms Tuuli McCully will then speak more on APAC economy on her session. Tuuli McCully reflects the topic of "the Asia-Pacific economic outlook for 2021 and beyond". Policy and economic uncertainties remain elevated globally ahead of the US presidential election and as the pandemic weighs on confidence and economic activity. Tuuli will discuss how the regional recovery is expected to unfold and what are the key risks to the outlook.
